HOPS

Where the artistry of craft beer meets the soulful melodies of jazz — all to save the frogs

BRANDING   ENVIRONMENTAL   GENERATIVE AI

What is this?

Hops is where craft beer meets the melodies of jazz, all nestled in the heart of Louisiana’s bayou. But more than a microbrewery and jazz club — Hops advocates for the environment and frog populations near and far.

Why does it matter?

Frogs are an indicator species, which can be used to monitor the health of an ecosystem. Recent declines in amphibian populations has come from a variety of human activities, from cutting down trees to driving cars, even brewing beer.

Brewing one gallon of beer produces around 6 gallons of wastewater, which can pollute freshwater ecosystems. I wanted to flip this idea on its head by eliminating wastewater production and donating a percentage of all sales to frog conservation.

Exploring generative AI

I (clearly) wouldn’t consider myself to be an illustrator.

I knew I wanted to create a series of illustrations of frogs playing jazz instruments, to create a band across the four bottles. However, I don’t have the illustration skills to bring that to life. For this reason, I wanted to explore the capabilities of generative AI.

Throughout this process, I learned that the more direction you give a generator, the more detailed images you can get it to produce. After hundreds of generations, I was able to narrow my prompts, and direct the technology to create a stylized, specific, and replicatable image set.

Capstone presentation

As the final part of my senior capstone, I presented this project to my professors, administrators, and other community members. Please enjoy the live recording below for a peek into my design process!
